International Women's Day is a global celebration to honor women, their accomplishments, their contributions to society and their legacy. This special day occurs on March 8 every year. In different parts of the world, the focus of the celebrations ranges from demonstrating respect, appreciation and love toward women, to honoring women's economic, political and social achievements.

What are some ideas for volunteering?

Volunteering can take any shape. Your day of service can be for and with any organization or person. You can:

If you need an idea, we encourage you to consider doing service that helps women or children, although you can certainly help anyone.

Do existing volunteer activities count?

Yes. It's great to continue your existing volunteering efforts and also have them count for the Mary Kay Global Month of Service.

Does volunteer service need to focus on women and / or children only?

Although Mary Kay's mission is to enrich women's lives and our corporate philanthropic efforts focus on women and children, we encourage you to simply volunteer time in a way that works best for you. The most important thing is to participate and make a difference in the communities in which we live and work.

Can I volunteer with my family and friends?

Yes. Volunteering with your family and friends is a good way to enhance relationships with them. Donating your day of service together provides an opportunity to know one another better. The more people who volunteer, the more people who are served and the closer we are to reaching our goal of volunteering 1 million hours of community service around the world.

If I bring other people to volunteer with me, does their service count too?

Yes. If you bring others to volunteer with you, their service also counts.

If I bring my family and children to a volunteer activity, does their service count?

Yes. If you're volunteering with a charitable organization, be sure to check the organization's age requirements for children who volunteer.

Do I need to volunteer with a group?

Although we certainly encourage you to volunteer with others to share the experience together, it's your choice how you volunteer your day of service. If it's easiest to donate your day of service individually, please do what works best for you.

Can I donate money to this program?

You are very generous to offer a monetary donation. Unfortunately, we're unable to accept monetary donations. The Mary Kay Global Month of Service focuses on donating time and service.

Types of Volunteer Activities

How do you define a day of service?

We consider a day of service to be 8 hours.

How many hours do I need to volunteer?

We encourage each volunteer to donate a day of service equaling 8 hours.

Can I volunteer my 8 hours over several days?

Yes, the goal is to provide a day of service or 8 hours. It's certainly your choice how you volunteer those 8 hours – whether in one day or over several days during the Global Month of Service.

What if I can't volunteer the full 8 hours? Should I enter my time anyway?

We encourage you to donate a day of service or 8 hours. However, we understand that schedules may not accommodate volunteering a full 8 hours in one day. So, we suggest you consider volunteering over several days, or ultimately donate what time you can because each person's service makes a difference. You may choose to enter 2, 4 or 8 hours at a time.

If I volunteer more than 8 hours, can I count all my service?

Yes, your extra effort is appreciated! If you volunteered 2 or more days of service, you can count each day.
