A complimentary facial in the blazing heat of August 1979 in Roseville, California was the door opening of a life time of an empowering career, spanning 30 years, for National Sales Director Christina Boyd. As a young US Air Force officer´s wife, Chris was oftentimes left behind for three weeks in a month while her husband, Ken, travelled in other parts of the United States interviewing medical doctors joining the Air Force. During that time, Chris was searching for something greater—a reason, a cause, a meaning for her life. As if by fate, a Beauty Consultant who had a Mary Kay booth in a county fair in California shared with her the answer to what she was looking for—the opportunity to discover a beautiful life, to which her life has been blessed beyond her wildest dreams.

The tough gets going
Her first challenge was how to support her career during the time when America was in recession. While the majority lost their jobs and businesses started to close, Chris worked doubly hard offering facial invitations and selling the opportunity to women to build their own financial freedom. "I looked at it this way, if 30% of the economy was affected with the recession, I still have at least 50% of the population who can be targets and are capable of buying and being recruited. My faith from then on was my biggest support to keep on believing that there was sunshine behind the dark clouds. Chris believes that for Consultants or Sales Directors who know how to have the mental and emotional endurance to get up and realize their dream, their Mary Kay

business will keep on going and soaring. True enough, amidst tough times, she earned her very first Pink Cadillac and was on the Court of Recruiting and Court of Unit Sales several times proving that no recession was big enough to stop her. As she says, "With the Holy Spirit as my partner, there are no setbacks, just a stronger determination to soar on Silver Wings."

A much welcomed challenge
After living in the United States for 30 years, a change of scenery and the possibility of retirement in the Philippines prompted the couple to move here. Mary Kay Philippines had just opened then and Chris wanted to test if what she did as Top Sales Director in the United States, she could do the same in the Philippines."My training and experience was for the American market. Having appreciated my customers´ capacity to pay cash on products they bought and the ability to invest in products immediately upon signing up as Beauty Consultants was for sure going to be missed. It was a challenge and I wanted to see if my years of training were going to be effective. If they were, we would stay, and if not, we would turn around and go back. Nine years later, we´re still here." As Mary Kay Philippines celebrates its 10th year this May, the Boyd area, too, is celebrating its fourth year of being an NSD area as well.

Much is given, much is required
Debuting as a National Sales Director was a memorable event for Chris whose family got to be with her during the ceremony. Chris´ 87-
year old mother was with her at that time. "You can just imagine how my Mama must

have been so proud of me," she said. "It was also very heartwarming to hear my daughters, Phoebe and Melanie, appreciated the lifestyle they were endowed with through the Mary Kay income. And to see Ken, my loving faithful partner, whose vision was greater than mine kept me on track and focused to stay the course. It was truly an awesome gift from God." Chris attributed her success to God´s blessings and hard work. She makes it a point that every Sales Director in her area gets the necessary educational support and empowerment to expand their business so they too can empower others. She referred to a biblical verse saying,...whomever much is given, of him shall be much required. (Luke 12:48) "As I was promoted to the position and being paid very well, it is therefore my Christian duty to work hard and earn the respect of my area. That everything that I am paid for, I´m giving my all out service and support in return." Take Chris´s advise to knowing what you want, sticking to what you have started and never give up, even when you are about to give out. Life has many twists and turns but at the end, the person who keeps getting up each time she falls is the person who will successfully win in the abundance of life.. "Take it from me," Chris says, "Almost 31 years in Mary Kay and I still am very much in love with what I do, for which I am paid very well. Having the luxury to travel the world with my husband, be wheeled around in a brand new Pajero and the joy of being able to financially help support humanitarian missions for Christ."
