Loving what you sell…

“If your heart tells you to do Mary Kay, don’t think twice. Just go for what you want for the worst thing that could happen is not giving it a try and wondering in the end what it would be like if you tried.”

Independent Sales Director Joanna “Joy” Laguipo loves selling Mary Kay products. She adores the business so much that she would actually do it for free. For her, she has found something she loves that it doesn’t feel like work anymore.

The year was 2002 of August when she began working as an assistant to Independent Executive National Sales Director Emeritus Pat Fortenberry, doing office work and helping area Sales Directors in monitoring their sales and recruits. The job required a lot of office work, and field work, if needed. Two months after, she signed up as an Independent Beauty Consultant with the intention of simply helping her childhood friend become an Independent Sales Director and make it through her DIQ stage.

A month after, Joy took the business seriously and began booking. Though enthusiasm and excitement were present, at the end of the day, she didn’t get any bookings and the flyers she sent out were not welcomed and received by the people she approached. This truly frustrated her because she was so eager to sell Mary Kay products. Something was wrong. She literally pushed her way to selling products to potential customers. And one booking that changed her life completely was when her recruiter/childhood friend surprised her by observing her in one of her Skin Care Classes.

After the Class, they both discussed the ways Joy could improve her presentation; and beginning January 2004, she was now properly prepared and equipped for the battle. Joy decided to manage her time better and change her image completely. She also began focusing more on enjoying each class rather than making a sale. Each Skin Care Class, up to the present, aims to solely make the participants happy and beautiful – with or without a sale. But Joy doesn’t leave a Class without any referral. This, for her, is a must. And she makes sure that she gives the participants enough information and provides them with quality customer service to earn their trust and return this gesture back to her - through referrals.

Joy accounts her success in Skin Care Classes to three factors: knowledge, communication and image. She tells the participants exactly what they need to know, based on their needs. She does not sugarcoat and does not over promise and under deliver. Her way of teaching skin care is basically informative and that is because she loves to read. She explains everything – from technical to the simplest, most common query. She loves conducting classes because she believes so much that our products sell themselves. She takes pride in Mary Kay products because they are simply quality products and effective, if used consistently.

Joy shares that the importance of selling is not to be disregarded because “this is really where big income can begin and grow,” and this kind of avenue is where everything else is created to prosper in the business. That is why her focus remains more with “On the Face” and “On with the Show” appointments.

A captivating smile, a confidence that exudes from within, a fulfilling career, coupled with her three children who serve as her primary motivation – that for Joy is the ultimate joy. And her Mary Kay career is the source of it all.

“Mary Kay is so much different from other direct selling companies because it teaches you integrity selling, develops self-image, showcases the best quality products that you’ll be confident to share to others, gives you unlimited income opportunities and most of all, promotes positive attitude, team spirit and lasting friendships that encourages everyone to become successful,”
